FEDERAL GOVERNMENT INAUGURATES INTER-MINISTERIAL TECHNICAL REVIEW COMMITTEE ON BSC/HND DICHOTOMY
The Federal Government has inaugurated an inter-ministerial technical review committee on the contents and curriculum of the Higher National Diploma Programme.
The committee has two weeks to submit its recommendations.
Inaugurating the committee yesterday, Supervising Minister of Education, Nyson Wike explained that the effort was one of the demands of the striking polytechnic workers and to bridge the gap between university degree and higher national diploma.
The current practice in the nation’s civil service forbids HND holders from rising above level fourteen, while University degree holders can progress to level seventeen
Similarly, polytechnic graduates are engaged in the public service from level seven, while university degree holders begin form level eight.
Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic leader, Chibuzo Asomuga said the move is a step in the right direction.
Polytechnic lecturers have been on strike over poor working conditions and academic environment.
