91 Year Old Female Marathon Runner Sets Record

Harriette Thompson Bella Naija
Harriette Thompson, a 91-year-old American marathon-runner personifies the late Aaliyah’s quote: “Age ain’t nothing but a number.”
Thompson participated in the “Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego Marathon”, organized by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society on Sunday.
She finished the 26.2-mile course in seven hours, seven minutes and 42 seconds, breaking the marathon race record for 90-94 year-old women by over an hour and a half, abc reports. She is also the second oldest woman to compete in a marathon in history.
She achieved this feat despite recently undergoing nine rounds of radiation on her legs for cancer treatment.
“I was tired at one point going up a hill and wasn’t sure if I could finish, but then I felt fine,” she said. “I hope to run the race next year even faster if I’m still around.”

Harriette is proof that you can accomplish whatever you put your mind to, regardless of age. You’re never too old or too young to accomplish those dreams of yours. So Bella Naijarians, get up and go achieve those goals! If Harriette can do it, so can you :)
