A security guard pleaded guilty to having sex with a chicken. He was fined R500. P
The man, a security guard from the area, appeared in the Barberton magistrate’s court on a charge of bestiality.
The incident took place in November 2013. Local police officers approached the Barberton SPCA for advice.
Trainee Inspector Eddie Gininda found that a sexual act was performed on the hen.
The bird's intestines had become dislodged and Gininda rushed the chicken to a vet for treatment.
According to the National Council of SPCA's (NSPCA), the hen had to be euthanised to prevent further suffering.
"The vet provided a report which outlined the physical injuries and the unspeakable suffering the hen must have endured," read a statement.
"Bestiality is a criminal offence in South Africa. It is indescribably cruel and injurious to the animal and is a serious indicator of deviant sexual behaviour."
