Our correspondent gathered that the robbers stormed the bank around the closing time and began shooting.
A resident, who gave his name as Ola, told our correspondent that the town was thrown into confusion as the hoodlums rained bullets on the bank.
He added that although the hoodlums did not succeed, six passersby were feared dead.
Ola said, “Some robbers came to Modakeke this evening. They were shooting to scare people away, but some youths challenged them and they ran away. I cannot say if any of them was arrested.”
Another resident, who pleaded anonymity, said traders hurriedly closed shops to avoid being casualties.
He said, “The robbers came in the rain. I closed and ran away from the place. My neighbors at the market have also closed because of the robbery.”
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mrs. Folasade Odoro, said policemen had been deployed in the area.
She said, “Policemen have secured the area. I cannot say if there is any arrest because the operation is still on as we are talking now.”
