Rawlings: Corruption likely to destabilise Ghana

Jerry John Rawlings Finger

Former President Jerry Rawlings has warned that the festering corruption in public administration can destabilise the peace of the country, if drastic measures are not immediately taken.

According to him, the spate of corruption in Ghana currently, supersedes what necessitated the 1979 coup.

The former Military leader headed a coup in 1979 over what he, and some of his colleagues in the army perceived, as moral degradation in the Ghanaian society.

Speaking on Adom, Thursday, Rawlings said the ability to sustain democracy in the country is not alone to control corruption and decadence in society.

“This country is hanging on the cliff considering the level of corruption we find ourselves in. What happened in 1979 is not even up to 10% of what is happening now.

“Democracy, freedom and Justice cannot contain corruption. It eventually leads to the destabilisation of the fabric of the society,” he lamented.
