Ghana forward Kevin-Prince Boateng says he is unable to walk on the streets whenever in Africa due to the overwhelming popularity of football players.
The cult treatment of football stars is no different in Ghana.
Fans swamp around the luxurious vehicles of their favourite football players whenever they are spotted in town.
This, the German-born Ghanaian says, make it extremely difficult for him to move freely whenever he is in Accra as compared to when he is outside the country.
'In Ghana, I cannot go on the road,' says Kevin-Prince Boateng.
'Soccer Stars in Africa are heroes, kings. And so they are treated.
'The press in Ghana is even more critical than in Germany.'
Boateng was granted permission to absent himself from the early preparations of the Black Stars for the 2014 World Cup in Accra last week.
The Schalke star has however joined the team in their training camp in Holland.
