John Obi Mikel’s agent says the Chelsea midfielder could leave the club this summer after admitting holding talks with Italian giants Inter Milan.
The Nigerian international has struggled to hold down a regular first-team place this season under Coach Jose Mourinho and the arrival of Nemanja Matic from Benfica in January has seen his opportunities restricted further.
Inter owner, Erick Thohir, is hoping to bring fresh talent to the club to add to the signing of Manchester United’s defender, Nemanja Vidic, who will join on a free transfer in the summer, and has identified the Blues enforcer as a target.
Mikel has three years remaining on his current deal at Stamford Bridge, but the 27-year-old’s agent, John Shittu, revealed talks have been held between himself and Inter representatives with a view to a summer move.
“Inter? What I can say is that I met my client and directors, and they are interested in him,” Shittu stated.
“He is a fantastic player who won the Champions League and the African Nations Cup, so he fits in Nerazzurris level.
“Inter is a possibility, but right now Mikel a Chelsea player.
“I cannot tell you more about the negotiations. The fact remains that Mikel now has a contract with Chelsea.”
