Abuja - Chairman of the Nigerian Governors' Forum (NGF), Rotimi Amaechi, has called on Muslims to pray for peace in the nation during this year's Ramadan fast.
According to a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to Amaechi, David Iyofor, the governor urged Muslims to make Nigeria a focal prayer point as they went through the Ramadan rites.
He also called for persistent prayers for the country's leaders.
“At this point in the life of our country where peace and safety of the citizens has become critical, it is evident that we need divine intervention in our nation,” Amaechi, the Rivers State Governor was quoted as saying.
Ameachi asked all the Muslims faithful to pray for leaders to receive guidance on taking the country forward.
“We need to pray for our leaders to know the right thing to do and have the political will to do it right for the good of our country,” the statement read.
The governor wished Muslims across the country a blissful season of Ramadan while stressing the need to seize the opportunity of the fasting period to intercede for a peaceful, better Nigeria.
This year's Ramadan comes on the back of rising terror blamed on the Boko Haram sect.
